Decision to strengthen connection between metro and regional campus locations and surrounding communities

The University of ÌìÃÀ´«Ã½app (ÌìÃÀ´«Ã½app) will change the name of several of its domestic campus locations, with the aim of strengthening their local identities and their connections with the communities which they serve.

After consultation with relevant stakeholders across ÌìÃÀ´«Ã½app since mid-2022, the proposal to rename a select few of ÌìÃÀ´«Ã½app’s onshore campus locations was endorsed by University Council in February.

The change was announced to staff and students this week (Wednesday, 22 March) and will be implemented in the coming weeks across impacted locations.

The naming of ÌìÃÀ´«Ã½app’s campus locations aims to support ÌìÃÀ´«Ã½app’s objectives across its metro and regional strategies.

The following ÌìÃÀ´«Ã½app domestic campus locations to be renamed are:

  • ÌìÃÀ´«Ã½app South Western Sydney becomes ÌìÃÀ´«Ã½app Liverpool
  • ÌìÃÀ´«Ã½app Southern Sydney becomes ÌìÃÀ´«Ã½app Sutherland
  • ÌìÃÀ´«Ã½app Batemans Bay becomes ÌìÃÀ´«Ã½app Eurobodalla
  • ÌìÃÀ´«Ã½app Bega becomes ÌìÃÀ´«Ã½app Bega Valley

All other ÌìÃÀ´«Ã½app onshore campus locations will retain their current name.

By locating regional campuses through naming within a broader area, the University is establishing a greater sense of ownership of and connection with the local community. By locating metropolitan campuses through naming – Sutherland, Liverpool, and Sydney CBD – the University is improving the ability of students and the wider community to understand where these campuses live within Sydney’s dense urban context.

The changes will be implemented over the coming weeks across impacted locations.

ÌìÃÀ´«Ã½app Deputy Vice-Chancellor and Vice-President Professor Sean Brawley said the changes would better reflect the surrounding communities in which the campuses are located and provide consistency across the University’s domestic footprint.

“Over the past 25 years, ÌìÃÀ´«Ã½app has developed a strong network of regional and metropolitan campus locations that play a vital role in their communities. The change in name for some of our regional and metropolitan campus locations will ensure ÌìÃÀ´«Ã½app’s identity is consistent.

“In our regional areas, in particular in the Bega Valley and Eurobodalla, the updated names will highlight the immense role that these campuses play in supporting students throughout the Far South Coast.”

ÌìÃÀ´«Ã½app Vice-Chancellor and President Professor Patricia M. Davidson said the values, support and quality of education provided by the University remains unchanged.

“As an anchor institution both at home and internationally, our expansive global footprint means we are well placed to be at the forefront of change, and create a purposeful future for our communities. We are able to fulfil our vision to inspire a better future through education, research and partnership, addressing issues of importance across all of our communities,” Professor Davidson said.

“ÌìÃÀ´«Ã½app’s commitment to a better future is strengthened by the work of the dedicated staff at our regional campuses in Nowra, Batemans Bay, Bega Valley and Moss Vale, as well as the staff at our Sydney metropolitan campuses in Liverpool, Sydney CBD and Sutherland who are committed to delivering teaching, research and community engagement whilst facilitating an exceptional experience to the diverse communities.

“All students and staff, regardless of which campus they study or work at, are part of the ÌìÃÀ´«Ã½app family.”
